This week was a whirlwind. I didn't manage to sit down to write until Wednesday morning! But Wednesday started with a bang!
I'm always motivated after my critique group on Tuesday nights. It doesn't matter whose story is in my head; if I go to bed with writing craft in my dreams, I wake up rearing to go. I was up at 4:00am and I clocked 2100 words by the time I needed to get the kids ready for school. I love writing first thing in the morning. It feels like I'm getting away with something I shouldn't. It's dark outside, nobody suspects anything, and I'm there in the shadows, riding on dragons and sword-fighting with handsome men, and exchanging flirtatious threats. I like the direction this rewrite is taking. My previous draft was a disaster of such intense subplots that could each be their own book! This rewrite is stripped down, simple, and much deeper as a result. I am showing more of the characters' personality. I'm exploring more of the scenery. It's a much more enjoyable writing process. Save the misery for the characters and the readers that love them, eh?
I'm itching to move on to chapter 2, but I have a roadblock. That fantastic critique group that I mentioned is on rotation. It's my turn to submit a piece for feedback. I'm not ready to let this chapter out of my hands yet, so I'll be dusting off an old short story.
